چکیده
The z lepton and mesons and baryons containing the charm (c) and bottom (b) quarks, are all found to have lifetimes in the range 10-13-10 -tz s [1] . A device able to resolve vertices to of the order of 1 mm is in principle capable of isolating the decays of these particles produced in e+ ecollisions . This paper describes the design, construction and performance of a pressurised drift chamber (vertex detector), installed near to the interaction point inside the TASSO detector at the e + estorage ring PETRA, with the aim of tagging and measuring the decays of heavy quarks and leptons.
